The Glenn Maxwell Leave

Everyone else is talking about it, so I thought I should mention it too. What about that leave from Glenn Maxwell in lastnight’s Big Bash game?! The “Big Show” was a “No Show”! The Melbourne Stars star stepped back and charged at the Brisbane Heat bowler Cameron Duffield, looking like he was going to go BIG and he didn’t even swing the bat! Was it a brain freeze?

Apart from being embarrassing for the big hitting Maxwell, it may have also cost his Melbourne side the game as they lost by one run. I know it’s a harsh way of looking at things but it is what it is. This was the Melbourne Stars’ third straight loss and luckily for this little duck writing this post I have bet against them each time. I haven’t checked to see who they’re playing next but I think they’ll want blood next match. Maxwell will be out to prove himself too, so I may look to put my money on them. It’s a much better side than their results are showing.

Adam Gilchrist was commentating on the match and said “I’m speechless. I really don’t know what to say. That is the most extraordinary dismissal I’ve ever seen in the game.”

Glenn Maxwell’s recent stats really don’t look good. He hasn’t passed 30 runs in his last 9 one day matches and he hasn’t passed 15 runs in his last 19 T20 matches. He has attracted bids of $1 million dollars per season in the Indian IPL T20 over the past 2 years but I wonder how much his recent form will cost him when bidding starts for the next IPL.

My thoughts on Glenn Maxwell: Awesome talent, not a number 3 batsman, probably only ever suited to the shorter t20 cricket format, and maybe one day cricket when he matures a little more. I hope he works on his bowling more as he can’t be relied on with the bat only. And finally, he’s almost good enough on the field to be picked as a specialist fielder!! Stats don’t tell you how many runs you saved on the field but if they did I reckon Maxwell would be up there as one of the best.

Anyway, enough chitchat, here’s video of the Glenn Maxwell brain freeze in Big Bash League 2014..

Brisbane Heat’s Ryan Duffield looked like he was having a good laugh. I don’t think he could believe what just happened either ;-)
